Ms Barbara Epperson (1891- 1994)

Mama Eperson was an American Baptist Missionary who was posted to Nigeria as an educator with the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Ibadan Nigeria. John Oyebiyi Alalade was sent to Ibadan at the age of 13years to work as a houseboy with Mama Eperson then as a stack illiterate boy. However, by the second week of working with Mama Eperson, Mama saw how hardworking and committed he was and so enrolled him at the Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Ibadan. That was John’s first experience with education. Mama supervised him, financially supported him, and saw him through his secondary school education at Iwo Baptist High School and Hsc program at the famous Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo-Town, Oyo State. Mama observed the seriousness of the bond between Julie Moradeke who was already a Manager at NET and her heartthrob (John Oyebiyi) and so supported them to ensure John graduates with grand grades in Medical school.

Mama retired in mid early 1980s and moved in to stay with John & Julie as their adopted mother.

Mama returned to the USA in 1994 due to very old age (103yrs) where she peacefully passed on.
